48-Hour Domestic Violence Training

Domestic Violence is a very complex issue that affects one out of three women in her lifetime. Because of this complexity, the Illinois Coalition of Domestic Violence Professionals requires that all domestic violence staff and volunteers who wish to provide direct services to victims complete the 48-hour training.

Family Shelter Service has been approved by the ICDVP Board of Directors to offer this training. We facilitate trainings a minimum of two times a year and the trainings are also open to community members who just wish to learn more about this devastating societal problem.

The training covers such topics as defining domestic violence, the impact of violence on the victim and why it is difficult for her to leave, and the profile of the batterer. Family Shelter feels strongly that the key to ending the cycle of violence is to better educate members of our society. The more all of us speak out about violence against women and children, the closer we will come to ending this cycle.

Please feel free to participate in our next training to begin on August 2, 2008 by completing and returning a registration form which you can access on this website. If you would like more information about the trainings, please contact Peggy Radke at 630-221-8290.
